Role of BRCA tumor suppressor genes in prostate cancer

Eliot Rosen

Inherited mutations of the breast cancer susceptibility genes BRCA1 and BRCA2 confer increased risk for prostate cancer in men. We have been studying the functions of these genes in prostate cancer cells in order to understand why defective BRCA genes lead to prostate cancer. It is hoped that this research will aid in the development of new techniques for the control of both hereditary and sporadic forms of prostate cancer.
