Investigating Sodium Channel Blockers
Recently, a voltage-gated sodium channel previously only found in neuronal and cardiac tissue was shown to also be expressed in human prostate cancer. Molecular analysis links increased expression of the voltage regulated sodium channel to androgen resistance prostate cancer. Target validation studies suggest that the voltage gated channel is important in prostate cancer cell migration and proliferation. We are presently developing novel and selective sodium channel blockers to prevent or limit prostate cancer growth and/or metastasis.
